Rexburg is one of the fastest growing cities in Idaho, averaging 9.9% (54.4% total) growth from census 2000 to 07/2006. In 2001 the local junior college, privately owned by the LDS Church, announced the move to become a 4-year university know as Brigham Young University - Idaho.
