One of the most unique features of the ranch is Umbrella Rock, an approximately 20-foot tall balanced rock that sits near the highpoint of the ranch. From this point, the surface of the ranch drops 260 feet into the waterfall-filled canyon on the southern face of Flagpole Mountain. This transition starts at the relatively flat mountain spine and moves through the sloped flank of the mountain before abruptly falling downward into the canyon. Along this course, a mixed range of pine and oak growth crowns the mountain and provides the canopy needed to create habitat for mountain ferns, moss, browse and light grasses. Large boulders are found in clusters throughout the property, and vertical cliffs rim the edges of more extreme drop-offs. This is a wilderness property, and with it comes the animals that normally require large expanses to roam. Black bears migrate through the property in their seasearch for food, habitat and mates.
