Description

Completed in the spring of 2012, the Station District Housing Project is the first piece of the Larger Union City Transit Oriented Development. The project was developed by and built by MidPen Housing, one of the largest Not for Profit suppliers of affordable housing in the greater bay area. The project, constructed in two phases, consists of three buildings including two apartment buildings and one parking structure. There are a total of 157 apartments with associated community spaces, laundry facilities, computer rooms, exercise rooms, and community gardens. There isan additional 9,000 sf of retail and café space to support this growing community. Tenants on the retail arcade include Green Market, grocery and Honey Badger, café.

Union City is constructing a new Transit Oriented Community surrounding its BART Station. The Redevelopment Agency funded backbone infrastructure to support housing and office development. Approximately 1,200 new residential units, of which 15 percent will be affordable, are under construction or planned within ¼ mile of the BART Station. Partners include Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition and Barry Swenson Builder. The Redevelopment Agency partnered with BART to reconfigure the station and parking lot to improve pedestrian, bus and bicycle access. The station will become a two-sided station with a free pass through that will provide direct access to the transit oriented development. Capitol Corridor, Dumbarton Rail, and ACE are also planning to provide service to the Intermodal Station.
