A landmark business in midcoast Maine for over 25 years, MacLeod's is known for it's signature recipe comfort food menu. This is one of the oldest, continuously operated restaurants on the Maine coast first operating between 1932 - 1961. Grandson George and his wife, Katie, reopened the restaurant in a new location in 1980 featuring a similar menu featuring fresh seafood, aged steaks, and traditional New England dishes with the addition of fresh salads and pasta dishes. Over the years, the restaurant's recipes have been solicited by Gourmet, Bon Apetit, Cuisine, and others.The restaurant has 80 seats in three dining areas on the street level of the historic Bradley Block building. The restaurant served lunch and dinner, generally 6 days/ week with some catering for the first 20 years generating $600,000 - $750,000 through the 1990's with a 20% net. After 2000, George went into semi-retirement, eliminating catering & lunch operations. Bucksport is on US Rt 1 between Camden and Bar Harbor. It is at the head of Penobscot Bay with a public dock and private marina, about 20 miles from I-95 and Bangor International Airport. Average daily traffic on Rt 1 about 25,000. Bucksport population about 5,000 but is a service area for about twice that. Extremely low crime and low taxes, excellent town services. MacLeod's Restaurant occupies the street level of the historic Bradley Block building on the corner of Main and Central Streets.
