"Opportunity zones" under a new program included in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, are eligible for tax incentives designed to spur hyper-local investment. "If an investment in an opportunity zone is held for a decade, no capital gains tax will be assessed. Qualified Opportunity Zones retain this designation for 10 years.
