ABOUT 100 SCHOOL ST , DANVILLE, CA 94526

Nestled at the corner of Hartz Avenue and School Street lies one of the historic gems of Danville architecture. The Podva-Shuey House, at 100 School Street, was built by the Shuey family in the mid-1890s. The Shuey family is descended from Martin Shuey, a United States Army general, who served in the war of 1812. Martin Shuey and his family migrated to California in 1859. The Shuey family owned the Shuey Dairy Company in Berkeley, and operated the Shuey Creamery that backed up to their home and faced the train station to the west. In 1938, LaMay Podva and his wife Cecile purchased the home, which was not far from their ranch, and lived in it with their two children Marilyn and David. During World War II, they rented the second story to two elderly women. The House was continued to be used primarily as a single family residence by the Podva family until 2001. The Shuey/Podva House has classic Italianate-style elements such as a low-pitched roof, overhanging eaves, porch, side bay windows, decorative brackets and spindles. Fish scale siding and a distinctive gable sunburst on the porch. The Shuey-Podva House was approved to be rehabilitated as an office building which became home to the renowned Branagh Development company. In 2007, Branagh Development completed an extensive renovation of this iconic building inclusive of the installation of the finest interior finishes. As part of the project, a detached garage on the north side of the house was removed, the house was moved forward on the parcel toward School Street and placed on a new foundation, a new addition was constructed on the north side of the house, and a finished basement was constructed. The Town Council designated the Shuey-Podva house as a local heritage resource. As such, it will continue to contribute to the downtown area’s historic character for generations to come. This is an extremely rare opportunity to own a meticulously cared for piece of real estate history ideally located in the heart of the Downtown Danville.
