Location Overview: Owatonna, Minnesota is located in the southern part of the state and 65 miles south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metroplex's Twin Cities. The Super 8 Owatonna is positioned on 1150 Frontage Road West and near many diverse demand generators. At the end of 2019, the voters of Owatonna approved a $104 million bond issue to construct a new high school which represents the culmination of a remarkable development boom in the city. Plymouth-based HVAC system manufacturer, Daikin Applied, is building a 150,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center, and Blooming Prairie-based Minimizer which produces polyethylene heavy-truck fenders, broke ground on a new headquarters and manufacturing facility in November 2019. In addition, the Bushel Boy Farms, whose headquarters is in the region, is constructing a 175,000-square-foot research and development facility. There is also a flight simulation school coming to Owatonna airport which includes instruction using a FAA-approved flight simulations devise, sale of pilot supplies, and training courseware. Noted by the city council, having a diverse economic base will tend to weather recessions better than other regions.
