Rangely has a history as rich as the town itself, with oilmen coming to the area in the early 20th century and converting it into successful oil camps. Today, these same oil fields are still active in the region and add to the diversification of the local economy. Moosehead Lodge is a non-registered historic lodge that was originally built as a motor-lodge 1944 called the Colthraps Hotel and served local oilmen and travelers. It was the first hotel built in Rangely and has undertaken several renovations through the centuries. The clean air and amazing adventures right out your backdoor make this the perfect place to live and explore. With unlimited sunshine, dark night skies, hundreds of miles of OHV Trails and one of the only designated natural rock-crawling parks in Colorado. In addition to the incredible landscape, Rangely boasts a stellar parks & recreation system, fishing in the White River, boating in the Kenney Reservoir, great gaming units for hunting, golf courses, community gardens, street art, museums, a municipal airport, a district hospital and a regional community college that all contribute to strong occupancy rates at the Moosehead Lodge. Moosehead Lodge is located on the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Byway, which is something truly incredible to explore. The Moosehead Lodge is a package of properties totaling 1.9 acres. There are 16 bookable rooms consisting of 7 cabins built in 2006 and 9 rooms in the main lodge building built in 1944. The separate owner's residence has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The owner’s residence is nicely appointed for an owner that wants to live on the property and operate the lodge. Owners’ residence could easily be turned into bed & breakfast or corporate rental. Many areas of the property have been refreshed and upgraded recently as the current owner has worked to stabilize the business after purchasing from the prior owners in 2021.
