PROPERTY OVERVIEW
THOROUGHBRED BUILDING Built in 1927 as a single-story brick office/ flex building, the Thoroughbred building was constructed by the Frigidaire Company as a showroom and distribution center. The “Thoroughbred Building” is located adjacent to the former New California Jockey Club (renovated and rebranded in 1896 when previously known as the Oakland Trotting Park), a thoroughbred race track, which closed shortly after horse race gambling was originally outlawed in California in 1911. From 1970-1996, the building housed Jason Products Company, manufacturers of polyethylene plastic bags. The company had utilized rail service that formerly ran adjacent to the building. In 1996, ownership acquired two sections of then surplus railroad spur land adjacent to, and across the street from, the main building, which includes two private access alleyways that provide valuable parking and private event space for tenants.
