The region is a center for petrochemical manufacturing, large-scale fabrication, marine research, maritime shipping, and tourism. Furthermore, tourism destinations in the region include Schlitterbahn (27.8 miles), Padre Island National Seashore (39.6 miles), Bayside Park (5.8 miles), and Sunset Lake Park (5.0 miles). The Corpus Christi International Airport (14.2 miles) is in close proximity to the Motel 6 Portland.
