The region is a center for petrochemical manufacturing, large-scale fabrication, marine research, maritime shipping, and tourism. The Joe Fulton International Trade Corridor (14 miles) is over 1,000 acres of industrial development and generates room demand for transient employees. Furthermore, tourism destinations in the region include Schlitterbahn (27.8 miles), Padre Island National Seashore (39.6 miles), Bayside Park (5.8 miles), and Sunset Lake Park (5.0 miles). The Corpus Christi International Airport (14.2 miles) is in close proximity to the Motel 6 Portland.
