Built by Derick Brinckerhoff, a Revolutionary War Colonel and eight-term State Assembly member, the estate has hosted some of the most influential figures in American history—including General George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and the Marquis de Lafayette. The mansion’s transformation over time reflects its enduring prominence. In the late 1800s, Matthew Brinckerhoff modernized the structure with a Mansard roof, marble fireplace mantels, and wood siding, expanding the third floor to accommodate five bedrooms. While fully renovated in 2018, today the Inn retains its original wood floors, plaster walls, crown molding, and staircase, bringing guests the luxury of the modern day with the charm of past times.
