ABOUT THE PROPERTY

Designed by Raymond Adda, an architect for the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, this former office building of La Poste has been transformed into a residential complex—social housing for Poste Habitat and homeownership units—by Icade and SCI Arkadea Lyon Croix-Rousse. The project was inaugurated on February 10, 2015. The post office on the ground floor has retained its original function, while the former mail sorting center has been converted into retail space. The firm Métropolis Architectes Associés reimagined this iconic 1970s architecture (with its prefabricated frame, vertical structure, and slender facade spines) with a focus on integrating the building into the Croix-Rousse neighborhood: adding a cornice, replacing the curtain wall with prefabricated white concrete pieces, adding loggias with wooden structures, and removing the external fire escape. However, the original design remains present.
