They are one of Exxon's largest distributors in Texas and the CEO, Carlos Garza, is currently the chairman of the Exxon National Jobber Council. Tex-Best Travel Centers Inc. is part of a nearly hundred-year-old family legacy that began back in 1919 when Fred Phillips Sr. became a Texaco agent and began selling kerosene from a rail car in McAllen, Texas. He went on to become the consignee for the cities of McAllen, Pharr, and Hidalgo, serving the community as a wholesale representative of Texaco, then known as The Texas Company. By 1993, the company had developed a chain of approximately 15 convenience stores and truck stops. That same year, it also became a Burger King franchisee. The company registered sales in 2001 of more than $50 million, and was granted permission by Burger King Corporation to develop the Corpus Christi, TX market.
