Use the spotting scope at the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, which offers some of the best views in northeast Iowa. Spy beaver, turtles, river otter and hundreds of bird species. Enjoy canoeing the 14-mile Reno Bottoms Canoe Trail or taking the boat out to the landing accessed by Army Road. Black Hawk Bluff and Black Hawk Wildlife area just south of New Albin offers scenic views and gives historical accounts during the Battle of Bad Axe. Iowa is rich with forest land, hunting and cropland, where hiking trails and public hunting land are minutes away. La Crosse WI is only 25 minutes away. This city offers everything from Shopping to microbreweries, nightlife, lots of restaurants and a vibrate 3rd St. bar scene, some of which have been seen on Dinners Drive-ins and Dives.
