Perry is a city in Houston County Georgia, approximately 14 miles south of Warner Robins & 30 miles south of Macon. The population was 13,839 as of the 2010 census, and it is situated in the Macon metro area, which has an estimated population of about 231,576. Perry is located along U.S. I-75, and also U.S. Hwy 41, south of Atlanta and Macon, Georgia. Located in Warner Robins, GA, Robins Air Force Base is the hub of the economy. The military installment has more than 24,000 employees, which is by far the most in the metro. To put it in context, the second-largest employer in the metro is the Houston County Board of Education, which has less than 4,000 workers. Not surprisingly, the government employment sector in Warner Robins equates to nearly 40% of the employment base, which is a share 2.5 times greater than the national average. And the spinoff employment from education and health services, retailers, and other service-based businesses to support this workforce is arguably just as important. The largest private employer in the metro is Perdue Farms with over 2,250 on its payrolls, followed by Frito-Lay with 1,500.
