About 222 E MAIN ST , BRENHAM, TX 77833

WOW!! What an incredible transformation of this landmark Three-story, 5 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom + 2 Half Baths, Historic "BASSETT" building in Downtown Brenham! You will absolutely love lounging on the roof top terrace, entertaining your guests and watching the sunsets over the Washington County Courthouse! Retail, Office, Residence, Air B&B ~ opportunities abound with this beautifully restored landmark in one of Texas' most charming downtown squares. Walk to restaurants, pubs, shops and theater. You may never see another building so well preserved with original restored wood floors, bead board ceiling, round arches & stucco hood moldings at door & window openings. Over the past 4 years, once again, this entire building has been renovated and restored to reflect its glory days with all the comforts you would expect (or love to have.) HISTORY: Completed in 1873, this Italianate structure housed the Bassett & Bassett Bank until 1884. In the early 1900's the Milroy family purchased the building and made it their home and headquarters for their cotton brokering business. The side entry, lobby, 1st floor office and the third floor were added at that time. The third floor raised roof with side lights was perfect for grading the cotton. Later, after the Milroys retired, the third floor was enjoyed by many as a ballroom. Almost 100 years after the Bassett & Bassett Banking House closed its doors, the building - in a serious state of deterioration - was purchased by in the 1980's by Gene & Doris Miller. Restoration work began and after two long years with the assistance of Ben Boettcher Architects the building was completely restored to its 1886 grandeur and was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. In 2013 the current owners saved the building and brought it to life again after standing vacant for several years. Again, with the help of Ben Boettcher Architects and over one million dollars, the Bassett Building has become the grand residence it is today. A few of the unique features include: Original birdcage elevator, walk-in bank vault, 1869 cistern 12"deep & 13" around. There is also a fire escape on the back of the buildings. Elevator goes to 4th level where you will find the roof top terrace. Watch the video to have a glimpse of this once in a lifetime opportunity or call us today for a private viewing
