About 2600 S MARKET ST , MECHANICSBURG, PA 17055

The property features a one-of-a-kind circa 1790 Federal-style stone building which started as a tavern but also was a train station, post office, store and most recently the bed and breakfast. Throughout you will see the perfect combination of historical details and modern amenities. The main floor has a central hall flanked on one side by a living/dining area, with very old hardwood floors, exposed ceiling beams and deep window sills. The dining area features a long antique table where guests eat breakfast in front of the walk-in fireplace with a propane log and food is served in a built-in corner hutch with a guillotine bar door. The living area also has another fireplace and some comfortable chairs for guests to relax. On the other side of the hall are two rooms separated by a wall partially constructed of wood planks with beaded edges. One is a sitting room/office for the owners with a large gorgeous braided rug and on the other side is an incredibly unique kitchen featuring barn wood cabinets and built in Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, a breakfast bar made of a single plank and more exposed ceiling beams. The second story features 3 unique guest rooms each with its own bathroom. Two have whirlpool tubs and the other a 5 foot shower with seat. Each has a large colonial-style bed, ceiling light/fan and 2 have electrified fireplaces while the 3rd has an electrified woodstove with an exposed stone chimney behind it. The 3rd story, which was built in the attic has an apartment for the owner. It has a bedroom with wall-to-wall carpeting and a closet, a bathroom with a shower and an elevated toilet (throne), a full galley kitchen with a farmhouse sink, granite countertop, a breakfast bar and black appliances. The most incredible room in the house is the living area with a cathedral ceiling where exposed roof beams can be seen, as well as the pegs used to hold them together. You can also see the chimneys merging into one in front of which is a propane wood stove. The basement has a high ceiling, full concrete floor, lots of wood shelving and updated mechanicals. It also has a separate outside entrance that was probably used by runaway slaves in the 1800's. The house and all outbuildings feature a coordinated color scheme. They are all gray since the house is made of local limestone, and the trim is red and 2 colonial shades of green. Outside, the house is surrounded by brick porches, a brick driveway, a large brick patio which features a hot tub, and a covered deck with a ceiling fan and water trough fountain. There is a reproduction pump over the very real hand-dug, stone lined well. Bed and Breakfast signs are all hand-made and professionally painted is a antique style. Behind the patio is a 2-story salt box style garage/workshop with a carport made to look like a like a 1940's garage featuring a reproduction gas pump and soda machine. At the rear of the property is a 2-story barn style 2 car garage. There are also 2 sheds, one a lean-to on the back of the workshop and the other a self-standing wood structure at the back corner of the fenced lot. Lots of landscaping features as well including a picket fenced garden and a snake fence bed.It is located in a very small town in a rural setting but is very close to Messiah College, Roundtop Mountain Resort and many highways taking you to all that southcentral PA offers from Hershey to Gettysburg to the state capital. Colonial Crossroads Bed and Breakfast has done a great business the past 6 years with a occupancy rate over 40%, 5 straight Trip Advisor Excellence Awards and a great website with a guest log of over 1600 guests. Enjoy the independent lifestyle of being a B&B owner and enjoy living is this wonderful piece of history!
