Located in the eclectic Alberta Arts District - 3000 NE Alberta Street was originally the Alameda Theatre in 1927. Renamed in 1937 and 1964 to 30th Avenue Cinema, then Cine 30. In 1969 the returned to original name of Alameda Theatre. After 51 years, the theater closed in 1978. The Alameda is one of a handful of motion picture houses that had been converted into churches. The building was home first to the Macedonia Church of God and after to the Victory Outreach Church 2005. The theatre was reopened in 2010, as the Alberta Rose theatre reemerging as Portland’s premier setting to experience acoustic music, art house films and live performances. The theatre has 300 fixed seats and radiates the serene feeling of a Spanish-Colonial courtyard. The theatre still has room to grow with changes to the upper area, now enclosed several rooms, including the motion picture room. The additions to the building changed the theatre from 600 seating to 300 seating. The exterior on the main street of NE Alberta includes 4 store fronts, one is used by theatre as a green room. On NE30th side of the building is another store front. The secured residential units are entered though a secured (locked) door and up a grand wide stair case to the second floor. These units included 3 one bedrooms, 1 efficiency unit, laundry room and access to the roof. The exterior still looks much as it did 74 years ago, with it distinctive Mediterranean clay tile roof and stucco walls.
