Located on the Historical East Side Wilmington, DE, approximately 3 blocks south of the Historical Rodney Square, the Knotty Pine Restaurant building was purchased by an African American Woman-Charlotte ~Lottie~ Ewing and her family back in the 1950~s and operated continuously by her daughter Stella Ewing Johnson Dunning through the 2000~s until she retired in 2014. The building housed one of the oldest continuously owned/operated African American restaurants in the United States. In February 2006, the State of Delaware awarded the Knotty Pine Restaurant an Historical Marker located in front of the building; for the major role that the restaurant played during the Historical Civil Rights Movement by offering meals to many travelers from around the world while they participated in various Civil Rights marches, meetings, etc.
