ABOUT 313 4TH ST , BLANCO, TX 78606

Blanco History – The Morgan Building, 313 4th Street, Blanco, Texas 78606 The Morgan Building was built sometime between 1920 and 1930, just west of the present location, on the southeast corner of Pecan and 4th Street (facing Pecan). The original owner being Miss Mae Morgan, who called her little store, C.S.& C.N. which stood for Common Sense and Common Necessities. She was involved in community activities, being a steward in the Methodist church and an active member of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and the Cemetery association. She was well known and respected, never married and took care of her parents. Her store carried a stock of good, dependable and reasonably priced items. In 1938 or 39 the building was moved to its present location on 4th Street to make room for a Magnolia service station on the old site. The Morgan Building subsequently had several owners and many tenants, including a church, a real estate office, and warehouse. In 1968 the Read family purchased it and opened Blanco Trash & Treasure. When Pearl Read died her daughter, Laura Williamson inherited the property and was responsible for obtaining a National Register plague on the building. The building sits in a National Historic District that encompasses downtown Blanco. In 2012 the building was purchased from Laura Williamson by Blanco Retreat LLC, Ruth Johnson. At this time the building had no water, no restroom facilities. Ruth added both sewer and water and a full bathroom to the building and they had the building raised on a new supporting beam and leveled. They also added a front porch and central air and heat. There is a courtyard to the east of the building that has been enhanced. The building housed a yoga studio prior to being offered for sale.
