About Ashtabula County

Ashtabula is the northernmost and largest county in Ohio, with just under 30 miles of coastline along Lake Erie. The coastline provides a unique microclimate, with sloping valleys and natural landscape making this region ideal for producing growing award-winning wines. The Grand River Valley is a dynamically expanding vineyard region with 31 wineries, five of which are critically acclaimed producers. There are numerous events hosted year-round within the 400+ acres of scenic vineyards, including the Ice Wine Trail, Cask, Corks and Forks, and the Turkey Trot. Ashtabula is also known as the covered bridge capital of Ohio, with 19 unique covered bridges. This includes the nation’s longest, the 613-foot Smolen-Gulf Bridge, and also the shortest, the eighteen-foot-long Liberty Street Bridge in Geneva.

Ashtabula County is just a short drive along Interstate 90 from Cleveland to the west, it borders Pennsylvania in the east, and it connects to the Youngstown metropolitan area to the south via Ohio Route 11. The Northeast Ohio Regional Airport, just over eight miles from the city of Ashtabula’s central business district, serves both corporate and private passengers. In addition, there are two deep water shipping ports in Ashtabula and Conneaut. Within Ashtabula County, there are eight recognized key industry clusters ranging from composite manufacturing, agribusiness, and chemical production to paper and packaging products and metal machinery and equipment. The county’s central location makes Ashtabula attractive to both Midwestern and East Coast industrial and consumer markets, with business and job growth promoted by The Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County.

There’s just under 6 million square feet of retail space in the county. Steady tenant interest and limited development activity have kept vacancy stable and low while supporting steady rent growth.
