The Historic Apollo Theatre of Kansas City has a strong history. One of many Boller Brother designed theaters, the Apollo Theatre opened its doors in 1910. Several theaters that exsisted on Troost Avenue, like the Isis Theater, Bagdad Theater, Strand Theater, Bancoft Theater, Southtown Theatre, all have been torn down and the Apollo is the only one still left on Troost. The Apollo Theatre closed in 1956, then reopened as a night club in 1959, eventually turning into a movie theater at one point, and now is vacant and looking to be bought and renovated soon. It mostly retains its beautiful terracotta and plaster moldings throughout the interior especially around the ceiling. This includes three huge, beuatiful and original ceiling medallions with the center crest being the biggest one. The original facade is under an overlayment of bricks which a movie theatre company covered. Its facade could be restored to it original beauty back in the early 1920s and 30s.
