In 2007, Urban Land Conservancy (ULC) purchased Tramway Nonprofit Center (previously the Phillips Center), a multi-generational building that dates back to the 1890’s. The Denver Tramway Company built the original structure for the maintenance of their trolley service. Since acquisition, ULC has invested over $3 million into Tramway Nonprofit Center increasing the efficiency, connectedness, safety and quality of this 60,000 square foot nonprofit shared space facility to increase internal collaboration and impact. In addition to acting providing affordable space for nonprofits, Tramway Nonprofit Center features one of the largest solar energy systems on a nonprofit facility in the state. The array is keeping electrical costs for all the organizations in the building at a fixed rate for the next 20 years. In just two years, the system offset enough carbon to save the equivalent of 140 acres of pine forest and has generated enough energy to power 3,700 computers for a year! Tramway houses over ten nonprofits and mission minded organizations, all of whom provide services to residents across the Denver region.
