Motel 6 Carlsbad is located on 3824 National Parks Highway and is near the Carlsbad Caverns National Park (17.3 miles) which is a significant room demand generator. Tourism to the Carlsbad Caverns National Park created a $34 million in economic benefits in 2018, and according to a peer-reviewed visitor spending analysis, the report shows $20.2 billion of direct spending by more than 318 million park visitors in communities within 60 miles of a United States national park. In addition, lodging expenses account for the largest share of visitor spending for United States national parks, about $6.8 billion in 2018, and the National Park Service report noted 466,000 visitors to Carlsbad Caverns National Park alone last year. The region is also supported by the oil and gas industry. Climarex Energy announced plans to up its Permian Basin presence and will build a new field office in Carlsbad, an approximately 16,000 square feet building will be a $2.9 million project which would include 24 offices and a 140-seat auditorium. The New Mexico Oil Conservation Division also announced plans to start injecting grout in the former I&W Brine Well located in south Carlsbad, and so far $6.2 million was spent on design, traffic modifications, and building and infrastructure removal.
