The building at 407/409 N 4th St, Burlington, IA is known as the YWCA Building. It was designed by the architectural firm Shattuck and Shussey and constructed in two stages. The original section 407 N4th was built in 1912, and the northern section 409 N4th was added around 1948. Collectively, the building address is 409 N 4th, however a tenant also uses the 407 N 4th St address. The building features Palladian-like round-arched windows, rows of dormers directly above the cornice, and a columned, arched entrance, drawing inspiration from English Georgian townhouses. It was remarkable for its time, as it continued the domestic theme of the earlier red brick and stone-trimmed structure. 409 N4th St is conveniently located in downtown Burlington next to City Hall and just a few blocks from Jefferson St, North Hill Park and Burlington Riverfront. Walkable to local banks, lawyers, accountants, shopping, entertainment, a park, our famous Snake Alley, and the Burlington riverfront.
