About Las Vegas Strip
Known for its gaming, entertainment, convention business, and emerging sports destination, Las Vegas is highly dependent on tourism. Visitor volume exceeds 40 million annually due to constant major events and the gaming industry.
The $2 billion Sphere opened in September 2023 and can host up to 18,000 people for music and sports events. The metro enlarged its sports footprint by adding the NHL franchise Vegas Golden Knights, the WNBA franchise Las Vegas Aces, and the NFL franchise Las Vegas Raiders. The Major League Baseball owners approved the Oakland A's move to Las Vegas in 2028. The owners purchased a site to build a $1.5 billion baseball stadium on the Las Vegas Strip.
Additional sports exposure has drawn new high-profile sporting events to the region, including the 2024 Super Bowl and a 10-year Las Vegas Formula 1 Grand Prix race along the Strip that had its inaugural race in November 2023.
Inducing more visitors through another form of transportation, a $10 billion high-speed rail from California to Las Vegas is in the works. The projected completion date is 2028, before the Summer Olympics hosted in Los Angeles. The Brightline West high-speed rail will travel 218 miles with service lines in San Bernardino and Los Angeles, with an estimated trip time of two hours, compared to a four-hour car ride.
