This is a property that is part of an abandoned tourist attraction from the 70's and an old motel. As the main street through Hays becomes more congested trucks are using this by-pass. The city is planning to put roundabouts off I-70 on Vine Street two miles east of this location those truckers that do not like roundabouts will be using the bypass as a result traffic is expected to increase. The land sets about 20 feet above the highway grade and is located approximately one tenth of mile south of the I-70 interchange. A new KOA Camp Ground will be built this year 0.9 mile south of this location making this location attractive for a convenience store or travel trailer sales. The city is planning to construct five roundabouts on Vine Street. The concern is will trucks traffic carrying wind generator blades be able to negotiate the roundbouts. A state senator said that KDOT was gong to improve Feedlot Road ( 3 miles north of Hays) to the US 183 By-pass so that trucks would be able to pass Hays easily. This makes this site more important.
