The Oaks Shopping Center is a master planned 32-acre development located at the intersection of North Thompson Lane and Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The 275,000+ square foot shopping center is being constructed in 2 phases. Phase I includes approximately 170,000 square feet, and Phase II will add in excess of 100,000 additional square feet. The Oaks is located one-half mile west of Stones River Mall via Robert Rose Drive and one-quarter mile north of Old Fort Parkway (State Hwy. 96) via Thompson Lane. Daily traffic on Thompson Lane is 20,980 and on Old Fort Parkway is 40,810 per the 2004 Average Daily Traffic Report by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The Oaks is located in the heart of the City's new Gateway Project, which was designed to create a new, attractive entrance to Murfreesboro. In 1998, the City spent $12.7 million to purchase 358 acres of land in the Thompson Lane and Manson Pike area, just to the east of Interstate 24. City planners envision a commerce center project including a conference center, retail, office, medical office, and residential uses. When combined with the newly constructed interchange at Interstate 24 and Manson Pike, the City’s commerce center plans would create the new gateway to Murfreesboro that had been desired by city leaders for many years.
