Business History: The Rustic Hut was established by long time Florence business people, Fred and Dorothy Peters, in 1972. The Peters Family owned a number of successful businesses along the 93 strip in Florence over the decades with the Rustic Hut being the longest lasting and most successful. Today it is operated by one of Fred and Dorothy’s daughters has owned and operated the business since 2003. The current owners sold the business on contract in 2007. Florence is an unincorporated town approximately 20 miles south of Missoula, the home of the University of Montana. Florence is part of Ravalli County which lies wholly within the Bitterroot Valley on the most western edge of Montana with quick access to the third largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states, the Selway-Bitterroot. The Bitterroot River runs the length of the valley and offers blue ribbon trout fishing.
