Tyler, Texas, continues to expand with new developments around the city. The new Tyler Economic Development Council Business and Technology Park is 135 acres on the south side of Earl Campbell Parkway and is near the intersection of West Loop 323 and Robertson Road. Centene, the first tenant in the Park, has purchased 25 acres and signed an option to purchase an additional 15 acres. The company plans on hiring more than 325 employees. Phase One of the project calls for the construction of a 50,000 square-foot, three-story office complex with a 6,000 square-foot daycare center. The TEDC has owned and managed 150-acres within the Tyler Industrial/Business Park. A variety of manufacturing, office, distribution, and retail business occupy the park. Approximately 90-acres of greenfield remain in the park, almost all zoned M-1. The TEDC aggressively advocates that most of the sites are reserved for manufacturing, distribution, and corporate headquarters. Additionally, Tyler City Council has approved 294 acres of formerly agricultural land for development. Genecov Group owns the land that can be developed into residential housing, office buildings, and retail property. The East Texas area supports numerous oilfield jobs and energy careers in the petrochemical, natural gas, drilling, and refinery sectors. A strong Texas economy has kept oil job search and oil field employment stable. Tyler is in a lucrative energy drilling and production area and situated between the Barnett Shale and the Haynesville –Bossier Shale natural gas plays. East Texas energy employers include a wide array of companies such as Halliburton, BJ Services, Schlumberger, Baker Petrolite, Cudd Pressure Control, DelekRefining, and hundreds of other smaller corporations. The oil industry in Texas remains a vital element in our nation’s energy exploration and production.
