The venue has provided a true Louisiana ambiance to locals & out-of-state visitors. Large ballroom, buffet room, 6 original rooms, huge bar, commercial kitchen. Beautiful and historic Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation has been a premier wedding event venue in the heart of the Greater New Orleans area for over twelve years. Resting along Historic River Road and only 20 minutes away from Downtown New Orleans, Cedar Grove is located in the quintessential spot for a true New Orleans experience. Over 225 years old, Cedar Grove is the oldest building in Jefferson Parish. Throughout its history, various renovations have been made by previous and present owners, giving the structure an eclectic vibe that cannot be found anywhere else. The most notable of additions is the Chapel pavilion/covered and air-conditioned outdoor area. Although this addition was used for wedding ceremonies, it can easily be used for event space, entertaining and/or living area. Cedar Grove features a spacious ballroom, a bar area, a buffet room, five fireplaces and six original rooms. There are two separate bathrooms; one for women, one for men. There is also a unisex bar bathroom, as well as a bathroom in the renovated upstairs loft and kitchen. The attic has been converted into a loft with one living area, one bedroom, closet space and one bathroom. Additional features include original hardwood floors, crown molding, gazebos, land, incredible architectural details History Of this Venue In 1790, the Drouet brothers purchased the land to build their plantation. However, it’s completion was not until 1812. The house still maintains the original floors, fireplaces, ceilings and walls. The original structure was three stories and took on a traditional plantation appearance. There are conflicting stories over whether Cedar Grove served as a plantation with crops because the records of this era are almost impossible to locate. Also, the small amount of land that the house was built on would have served better for a family garden rather than crops that would bring in an income. While the Drouets owned the plantation, it was moved off the river three times to avoid being flooded by the river. The three stories stayed in tact with each move. However, the cedar trees, for which the plantation is named after, were washed away with the Mississippi River waters. There is one cedar tree that sits on the front lawn of the plantation. Cedar Grove stayed in the Drouet family until 1948. At that time, it was sold to a gentleman who rented it out to families to live in. In 1953, engineers began construction of the massive levy that lines River Road. At that time, Cedar Grove was moved to its present location. However, unfortunately, the second owner of the plantation removed the first floor. The removal of this floor therefore put Cedar Grove into the category of an Arcadian style home rather than a stoic plantation home. In 2006, the plantation was purchased by the Mercer Family. Because of the confusion over the name of the restaurant, many locals still called it Tchoupitoulas Plantation. So, the Mercers called it Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation so that all the history would be included in it’s long running story. In the last twelve years CGT has hosted weddings for brides from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Trinidad, as well as every state in Am
