DESCRIPTION
Property Description: The Chippewa Lake land of 95± acres includes the original amusement park land with lakeshore frontage, plus 40 adjacent acres of undeveloped farm land. The Medina County Park District owns and manages the lake which has public access. The sale acreage includes private lake rights, permitting use for swimming, boating, and fishing, as well as the rights to construct docks and boat ramps for a total of 100 power and sail boats. Now Only $30,000/acre for Lake Front Commercial & Residential Land The 350 acres known as Chippewa Lake was formed by a glacier and is spring fed, and is the largest natural lake in the State of Ohio. Because of it’s purity, the lake’s ice was harvested in the 1800’s by many ice houses and transported to cities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. As early as the mid 1800’s, Chippewa Lake was known for its fishing, boat rides, and beautiful picnic areas, the precursors to amusement parks. The land was developed into a popular vacation resort that included a boardwalk, a hotel, a bathhouse, and a dance hall. Trains ran to the park day and night, and over the Fourth of July weekend in 1892, a crowd of over 20,000 was recorded. By 1937, when Parker Beach purchased the Chippewa Lake Park, the number of amusement parks in the United States had gone from 1,500 in 1919 to only 500. Beach reinvigorated the park after the Great Depression, and it became famous for its midway rides, pristine beach, picnic pavilion, miniature golf course, restaurant, and grand ballroom. The 1940’s brought in the big band era and they all found their way to Chippewa Lake Park. Benny Goodman, Lawrence Welk, Glenn Miller, and Guy Lombardo all made appearances. The lake, amusement park and adjacent farm were purchased by CBE, Inc. in 1969. The amusement park continued operation until 1978. The lake was sold to the Medina County Park District in 2007. Location Description: The property is bordered by Lake Road to the east, Longacre Lane to the north, Chippewa Lake to the west, and Beau Bay Boulevard and Lorrie Lane to the south. The property is located in Lafayette and Westfield Townships in southern Medina County and Northeast Ohio. It is accessible from Interstates 71 and 76, at the Lodi, Ohio exit, on Lake Road. This property is approximately 35 minutes from downtown Cleveland, and less than 20 minutes from downtown Akron.
