The Beattie House, constructed by Fountain Fox Beattie in 1834, is the 3rd oldest structure in Greenville. Members of the Beattie family lived in the house until the mid-1940s, when the City of Greenville acquired the house, and it served as meeting place for the Greenville Womans Club from 1949-2014. In order to widen Church Street, the house was then moved from its original location to 1 Beattie Place and resided there for many years. In 1974, the Beattie House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1983, the house was again relocated, this time from 1 Beattie Place to 8 Bennett Street in order to accommodate for the construction of the Liberty Towers. The property is located in the East Park Avenue Historic District in downtown Greenville.
