This historical estate home could be beautifully restored. *Large pond known as Lees Pond with a permitted Dam *2 Artesian Wells *Mature natural Pines and hardwood trees and abundant wildlife *Timber Cruise was conducted, see property information package *Good hunting, timber investment, bed & breakfast, corporate retreat, potential solar field HISTORY OF LEE SETTLEMENT Pine Forest Lake, also known affectionately as Lees Pond was the place to go to for social events on the weekends. The mayor, sheriff, and judges attended and participated in these events. The scuppernong winery was active, even though it was during prohibition time. There was a large outside Pavilion which provided shelter and picnic tables and benches for the Potluck meals held after church. The original home, once the site of the largest ballroom in the state, 3400 SF on the second floor, hosted all of the well-known dance bands of the era including Arkansas-born trombonist Blue Steele, the band leader billed as the King of Rhythm and his Victor Recording Orchestra. This band played a bouncy combination of hot jazz and western swing from 1927 to 1930. Family reunions, church socials, barbecues, and a scuppernong winery made this a very popular place. There were boat races, fishing, and swimming in the lake. There were 2 parlors set aside in the main house for playing card games. After sun down the attendees would go up on the second floor for refreshments, dancing, and music. Cotton, corn, sugarcane, grapes and pecans, and livestock were the mainstay in the old days and thrived due to the high-quality artesian wells on the plantation. Family history has it that Sherman camped here on his march to the sea, from Atlanta to Charleston. This estate property has 2 artesian wells and springs, as well as running streams which never run dry. There is water on both sides of Norway Road and the property has water rights to the owners. This area is also protected from major storms year-round. This estate grew its scuppernong grapes for making a delicious dinner wine, a 19thcentury tradition in the South. In a natural setting, scuppernongs or muscadines are important plants for improving the environment by providing cover, browse, and fruit for a wide variety of animals, in addition to producing a great natural wine. Muscadine grapes are an incredibly powerful fruit, jam-packed with rich antioxidants that are good for the body. There are many health benefits that have been associated with muscadine grapes that have been documented in/by third party independent research. The possibilities for this estate property are unlimited: specialty farming; equestrian sports; bed and breakfast; retreat; winery; water sports recreation; and fishing and hunting or when restored, for fish farming, or a fishing and water sports recreation retreat. Fishing on the property for bass, bream or catfish, or charter fishing for marlin, bluefish, redfish, swordfish, etc. on the coast make this an ideal location. Just minutes from the following locations, making it a central hub for other events. * 11 minutes / 7 miles from Orangeburg Municipal Airport * 55 minutes / 48.8 miles from Columbia Municipal Airport * 80 minutes/ 75 miles from Charleston International Airport; close to Atlantic Ocean, beaches, resorts * 70 minutes / 55 miles from Aiken Municipal Airport * 90 minutes / 70 miles from the Masters Tournament in Augusta.
