Austin’s Tech and Startup Corridor is less than 5 miles to the north and west of Retama Trace, which is home to many of Austin’s largest tech employers. To be located on 133 acres, this future campus will initially create 5,000 new jobs with the goal of expanding to 15,000 employees, making Apple the largest private employer Austin. The Domain, also known as “Austin’s Second Downtown”, is an upscale lifestyle center with high-density retail, residential, and office space, operated by Simon Property Group and Endeavor Real Estate, and is within 2 ± miles of Retama Trace. Retailers include Austin’s first Neiman-Marcus, Macy’s, an Apple “flagship” store, Tesla, Aloft Hotel, Design Within Reach, Anthropologie, Coach, Restoration Hardware, Tiffany & Co., and H&M. The second phase, The Domain Crossing, is located just south and adds an additional 350,000 ± SF of retail including a three-story Dillard’s, Westin Hotel, Lone Star Courts, Dick’s Sporting Goods and I-Pic Movie Theater. Domain Northside is now open with Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom, the “Rock Rose District,” and new boutique hotels and trendy and upper-end restaurants. Office tenants now include Facebook, WeWork, Fidelity Investments, and Amazon. Austin-based HomeAway is expanding its footprint at the Domain with a new 16-story global headquarters, known as Domain 11, that will house 2,000+ employees, opening in 2019. Close to the Domain, the City of Austin recently approved the use of a 24-acre tract of land for a Major League Soccer stadium at McKalla Place. This privately financed, $225-million stadium, will be home to the “Austin FC”, and will be Austin’s first major league sports team. The 20,000-seat stadium is expected to be ready for the 2021 MLS season. Once completed, Retama Trace Apartments will be less than a mile from the location of this new stadium. Additionally, many Craft Breweries are sprouting up in the neighboring industrial parks adding to the allure of this North Austin destination. The University of Texas main campus is about 5.6 ± miles to the south with current enrollment of 51,000 ±. U.T. is consistently ranked one of the best public universities in the country, with top ranked programs in Business, Engineering, Law, and Medicine. The U.T. Pickle Research Campus is only 1.2 ± miles northwest of Retama Trace. Austin Community College (ACC) Northridge, home to creative design technologies, radio-television-film, and technical communications programs, is about 2.3 ± miles north.
