DESCRIPTION
https://goo.gl/maps/siexdrXMTnL This shows the Mine's location and its proximity to Mt. Rushmore. The Ingersoll Mine is a thirty-three-acre parcel of resort property in the heart of the Black Hills two miles behind Mt Rushmore. Besides being in the most spectacular part of the Black Hills, three million-plus tourists visit this area for its beauty and to visit Mount Rushmore each year. The Ingersoll Mine was one of the most prolific mines for mineral extraction from 1880-1940. Being the largest producer of Lepidolite lithium in the world for lithium drugs at one time (Drugs are now synthetic). The mine was a supplier of beryl ore for Brush Wellman (now called Materion) in Utah. Originally, the mine was created to produce tin. Hundreds of thousands of tons of minerals were removed to produce tin. Rare earth metals have been found in the mine, which was not yet discovered when the mine was in operation, along with other metals such as tantalum, lithium, and columbite. Because of this, the mine has the potential to be worth a large amount of money. It is also one of the few places on earth with blue tourmaline crystals. Worldwide, the Ingersoll mine is known for its spectacular mineral specimens which include the rare blue tourmaline crystals. Just as a parcel of land, it is valued at thirty thousand per acre and much more if subdivided. There are only a few properties in the Black Hills with this kind of natural beauty. Black Hills property is mostly owned by the Forest Service which makes the private property even more valuable.
