DESCRIPTION
The site was originally the walled garden annexed to Middlewood Hall a Grade II Listed building, built in 1761 by George Walker and now comprising six dwellings. It is approached by vehicle via a lengthy service access road which is shared by numerous other occupiers of adjacent properties. The service road is accessed via the A635 Doncaster Road thoroughfare from the south west. The A635 forms one of the principal thoroughfares connecting Barnsley to Doncaster. It is wedged between the urban residential settlement of Middlewood Hall and agricultural land. The site is densely covered by mature trees including the Elm and Mulberry varieties. It is delineated principally by a high stone wall of considerable value with gated entrance and furthermore by raised earth bankings. The woodland includes some fruit trees in its lighter areas and there are remnants of the original garden paths. The site extends to approximately 1.91 acres (0.78Ha) or thereabouts excluding its lengthy access track.
