Bio
John Thys serves as Vice President of Real Estate at Driven Brands, the parent company of Take 5 Oil Change, where he leads real estate strategy, site selection, acquisitions, and development for the company’s automotive service brands across North America. In this role, he is directly involved in supporting Take 5 Oil Change’s rapid expansion by identifying and securing high-quality retail locations that align with the brand’s fast, drive-through service model.
Thys was promoted to Vice President of Real Estate in January 2025, after serving for several years as Senior Director of Real Estate, during which time he played a key role in scaling Driven Brands’ real estate footprint to hundreds of new locations. His responsibilities include managing complex lease negotiations, overseeing development pipelines, supporting franchisees, and coordinating with internal operations and marketing teams to ensure successful market entry and long-term performance.
Prior to his real estate leadership role, Thys spent more than two decades with 1-800 Radiator & A/C, another Driven Brands company, where he was part of the initial management team that helped transform the business from a family-owned distributor into a national franchise network. His background combines franchise development, new market strategy, and long-range growth planning, giving him deep insight into both corporate-owned and franchised expansion models.
John Thys holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Finance and Economics from Stonehill College and is a licensed New York Real Estate Salesperson. He is widely experienced in retail real estate, site analytics, and automotive service development, and is recognized internally for building scalable real estate processes that support Take 5 Oil Change’s continued growth throughout the United States and Canada.
