Steve Landfield boasts an accomplished background and years of experience in commercial leasing and sales, real estate education, and environmental safety training. In the brokerage arena, Steve has closed commercial transactions with several Manhattan real estate firms, including his own, the former NYC Homes, where he was a partner. Steve came to Nest Seekers International in 2012 to work in these areas and to specialize in the leasing of retail, office, and other commercial spaces, as well as investment building sales, development sites and purchases.
Fueling his success in serving clients in all areas of the business is his reputation in the world of real estate education. Steve is a New York State Approved Real Estate Instructor, teaching at the New York Real Estate Institute, New York’s largest real estate training school, where his popular “Introduction to Commercial Real Estate” continuing education class led to his development of a three-day “Certificate in Commercial Real Estate” class, which is one of the school’s showcase classes, and a basic but comprehensive survey of commercial leasing and sales. He quite possibly teaches more commercial brokers and salespersons than anyone else in New York City.
Steve teaches all New York real estate sales and brokers licensing classes, does private classes and tutoring and also teaches another class he created: "Case Studies in Commercial Real Estate Building Investments", where he shows brokers how to analyze commercial building finances and how to select investment buildings for clients, Section 1031 Exchanges, as well basic background in New York City zoning, air rights and due diligence.
He developed and teaches an “Introduction to Environmental Health Hazards", which is a unique real estate class held at The New York Real Estate Institute. The course covers lead, mold, asbestos, and radon hazards for real estate professionals, where they can be found and how to deal with them in sales and rental transactions. He is approved by the New York State, Department of State as a Technical Instructor for Home Inspectors & Appraisers for this class.
Steve is a Continuing Education Instructor in the Division of Continuing & Professional Studies at Baruch College - City University of New York (CUNY) in New York City, where he teaches Codes, Health And Safety For Facilities, a course which examines the legal requirements and physical factors that promote safe, productive working environments, and New York real estate salesperson's licensing classes.
Supplementing his real estate industry knowledge, is Steve’s background as an Environmental Health Hazard Safety Instructor, and his knowledge of the environmental hazards found in residential and commercial buildings. He is an EPA Certified Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor, allowing him to perform residential lead-based paint risk assessments, which includes performing on-site inspections, taking samples, determining the severity of lead hazards, and developing options for eliminating those hazards. He is an expert in lead paint health hazards and safe removal procedures. He is also an EPA-Certified Renovator and a Principal Instructor in EPA/HUD Lead-Paint Safe Work Practices for Renovation, Repair and Painting.
Steve works for Environmental Education Associates, of Buffalo, New York (EEA) as a Principal Instructor, where he teaches initial and renewal classes in EPA Lead-Based Paint Safely for Renovation, Repair & Painting (RRP). He is heavily involved in the training of hundreds of workers at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), after a recent city investigation revealed that they had not been trained in lead safe work practices or in the inspection for lead in NYCHA housing.
Steve is also a Principal Instructor for EEA in New York State Mold Assessor, Mold Remediation Contractor & Mold Abatement Worker training for licensing under the New York State Mold Evaluation and Remediation Law, effective January 1, 2016, being administered by the NY State Department of Labor. He has completed OSHA 30 hour general industry safety training. He has traveled the country, giving EPA Lead Certified Renovation, Repair & Painting (RRP) training classes. He is a licensed New York State Mold Abatement Worker - Supervisor.
He recently testified before the EPA in Washington, D.C. in a Regulatory Reform Hearing, in an effort to save the RRP program from regulatory cuts under the Trump Administration.
Steve also teaches industry safety seminars in NYC Lead Safe Work Practices and in Mold and Asbestos Awareness, Carbon Monoxide Compliance, Heat and Hot Water, Integrated Pest Management, Bed Bug Awareness, Chemical Safety in the Workplace and How To Manage Renovation Projects for New York City building superintendents, at Local 32BJ Thomas Shortman Training Fund of the Service Employees International Union.
