Bedrock is a Detroit and Cleveland-based real estate firm focused on urban development and revitalization. Founded in 2011 by Dan Gilbert, the company operates across multiple property sectors including office, retail, residential, hospitality, industrial, data centers, and parking. The firm has deployed more than $7.5 billion in capital to develop and restore more than 140 properties totaling over 21 million square feet across its two primary markets. In Detroit, Bedrock's portfolio concentrates along the Woodward Avenue corridor and downtown core, featuring Hudson's Detroit—a $1.5 billion, 1.5 million-square-foot mixed-use development anchored by General Motors' global headquarters. The firm also developed City Modern, an eight-acre, 450-unit mixed-income residential project in the Brush Park neighborhood. In Cleveland, operations center on the Gateway District and riverfront area, including The May, a 244-unit adaptive reuse of the historic May Company department store, and plans for a 6,200-seat riverfront amphitheater. Bedrock is advancing a $1.6 billion redevelopment of the Renaissance Center in partnership with GM, which involves demolishing two towers and converting office space to residential use. The company maintains more than 330 office and retail tenants across its portfolio. Jared Fleisher assumed the role of CEO in December 2025, succeeding Kofi Bonner, who led the firm through the pandemic period from 2020 to 2025. Detroit and Cleveland represent the entirety of Bedrock's geographic focus, with the firm targeting specific submarkets and corridors within each city center.
