Whether you’re reading this article from your kitchen table, a socially-distanced office desk, or a plane en route to your holiday destination, it’s undeniable that 2021 has been a tumultuous year.

And, yet, despite the chaos, the commercial real estate industry has endured — in many instances, it has thrived. The ascendancy of the industrial sector — long the poor, red-haired stepchild of CRE — was reflected in several of LoopNet’s most-read stories of the year. At the same time, though, while the media has largely focused on the negative effect that COVID has wrought on the retail market, ingenuity (and potential revenue streams) abound, as several other articles from our top 10 illustrate.

And then there’s the perennial appeal of housing to the investor market, whether it comes in the multi- or single-family variety, a fact evidenced by LoopNet’s three most-read articles of 2021.

Of course, you may also be wondering whether it’s time to hold or sell that hotel property you purchased on the shore a few years ago; or maybe it’s finally time to pull the trigger on purchasing a rural property deep in the wilderness, hundreds of acres between you and the nearest other human.

One has to admit, given where we find ourselves at the end of 2021, such a notion is not entirely without appeal.

On that note, and without further ado, these are LoopNet’s 10 Most-Read Stories of 2021:
