The new Boating Instruction Safety Center (BISC) which is a 17,000 square foot facility operated by CSUCI (California State University Channel Islands). Ground breaking on the center was in fall of 2011, and completion is projected for October of 2012. The project is fully funded and will be loaded with University students and will bring a young vibe to the area. The BISC is located 500 yards to the south of the Marine Emporium Landing.
The Maritime Museum is under construction adjacent to the BISC, and is slated to open mid-Summer of 2012. The 12,000 square foot museum building is a new location for an existing location that has been across the harbor since the late 1970' s.
