Located in the heart of downtown Providence's historic core, The Dreyfus is a signature building which reflects the prominence and prosperity of Providence at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Begun as a modest boarding house, by 1917 The Dreyfus had expanded and evolved into what we would today call a "boutique hotel". Many of its guests were traveling performers and their audiences, who flocked to Providence's flourishing theatre district. From 1975 until 2000, The Dreyfus reinvented itself as a dorm for Johnson and Wales University students. In 2005, the property was acquired by AS220, a nationally recognized arts organization based in Providence. AS220 completed an award-winning restoration, which features the stunning bar and restaurant mentioned above, and the AS220 Project Space, a vibrant visual arts gallery. On floor 2 are AS220's offices and artist work spaces. Floors 3 and 4 contain 14 artist live studios.
