ABOUT THE PROPERTY
Situated in the heart of Austin’s vibrant downtown entertainment district, The Ritz Theater’s rich history dates back to 1927 when ten cents would get you a ticket and a comfortable seat. It was the first theater in Austin to be built specifically for ‘The Talkies’ or movies with sound. Over the decades, the Ritz has enjoyed many incarnations as a live music venue hosting big names like Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and countless others. It has also been an event space, punk rock club and even home to the famous Esther’s Follies cabaret. In 2007, the building’s façade and interior were completely renovated by Alamo Drafthouse’s Founder, Tim League, who has a passion for historic theaters. The Ritz was restored to its former glory and original purpose: a movie theatre. After a long and successful run of 13 years, the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz closed its doors in 2021 due to the pandemic. However, the iconic Ritz Theater building lives on holding enormous potential for concepts that want to be an exciting part of downtown Austin’s history.
