PROPERTY OVERVIEW
The Fine Arts Building was built in 1885 as a carriage assembly and showroom for the Studebaker Company. By 1898 the Studebaker Company outgrew the building and renovations were conducted to transform the building into working artist studios. In the early 20th Century the Fine Arts Building was a center of artistic and civic activity for the city, the occupants of which had nation and international impact of the arts and society as a whole. Throughout the years the Fine Arts Building has housed music schools, art and literary clubs and women's suffrage organizations. Some of the most recognizable artists such as sculptor Lorando Taft, architect Frank Loyd Wright and illustrator William Wallace Denslow. Today the Fine Arts Building remains as a working artist studio building.
