ABOUT THE PROPERTY
One of the largest of the eastside business buildings, the former Lynch Paint structure retains its historic features as an early twentieth-century commercial-style building. Built in 1925 by J. E. Kelley as a furniture store, the structure was the longtime location of W. J. Lynch Paint Company, a large home decorating firm. Kelley established his firm in 1904 at a store at Fourth and Cherry and later moved to the Hale block just opposite this building and then in 1925 he constructed this structure. The main floor of the building (65 by 105 feet) was originally overseen by a large balcony. It was designed and built by the Dawley Brothers Construction Company. K. B. Van Tuyl did the brickwork. Listed on the Olympia Heritage Commission. This rectangular, two-story structure, has a flat roof bordered by a flat parapet, which has a raised section at the center of the front (north) facade. The front facade has a storefront with a recessed central entry and large plate glass windows with aluminum frames, bordered by the pigmented structural glass. This treatment continues on most of the west facade. The second floor has been renovated to accommodate living units. During the renovation, the second-floor windows were restored.
