No.22 Chancery Lane was originally built in the 1970s and was characteristic of that period of office architecture. The PKS project upgraded the building with new cores, interiors and facades to restore the essential character of the local street scene and respond to its important location next to the former Public Record Office and adjoining listed buildings, now part of Kings College. The two principal facades occupy very different circumstances, with the western facade taking its place in the Chancery Lane streetscape, and the southern facade responding to the immediate presence of the grade II listed building. The junction between these two facades is marked by a vertical element in the street which also responds to the exuberant roofscape features of neighbouring buildings and acts as a bookend to Lonsdale Terrace. The principal material, Portland stone, reflects the character of the local area whilst carefully considered detailing, on items like reverse sloping cills, maintain the modern appearance and clean lines of the building by avoiding the prevalent staining suffered by many stone clad buildings in the area.
