In 1953, an article in the ABC newspaper celebrated the premiere of the Grand Gallery, the sumptuous commercial passage that linked Calle Ancha de San Bernardo with Isabel la Católica Street. “A step forward in Madrid's constructive progress,” the newspaper said. The Gran Galería is part of the complex of buildings -Teatro Lope de Vega, housing, Emperador hotel, Santo Domingo hotel- that architects Joaquín and Julián Otamendi built from 1944 onwards.
